Zindgi kyo.n tuu sach sach bataati nahi.n
Na fikr kar mai.n itna-bhi jazbaati nahi.n
Jaane kaha.n kho gayi hai Tawajjoh meri
Phuul se bhi ab koi khushbu aati nahi.n
Phirta hai jo tuur pe dhundhla sa koi
Uss tak meri aawaaz kyo.n jaati nahi.n*
Jis din se bahare.n mujhse ruuthi hai.n
Koi ada-e-sabz-o-gul mujhe bhati nahi.n
Jiske kirdaar hii bewafa afsaane nikle
Wo kahani bhi khud ko dohrati nahi.n

*When Hazrat Musa, compelled by the insistence of his people, went to Mount Tuur and petitioned the Lord Most High, 'Oh Lord, show me Your radiance', he received the reply, 'You cannot look upon it'. When he asked again, a stroke of lightning flashed. The bush of Tuur burned, the mountain of Tuur shuddered in an earthquake. Hazrat Musa fainted and fell to the ground.
